JUNDA KII

Junda KII is the new one-design designed by Felci Yacht Design, at the input of Ludovico Fassitelli, founder of the company Junda. A boat designed to be easily sailed by just two crew members, built and regulated to comply with a very strict monotype.

From a naval architecture point of view, we tried to create a very efficient package that would allow two crew members to get maximum satisfaction in a wide range of conditions. To be noted that we are not talking about an acrobatic skiff but rather than of a small keel racer, a boat that was born to be driven without the need for excessive fatigue but with a natural and efficient crew position, by the way also managed by the class regulations. So no extreme choices, but a boat with a well-balanced canoe body in the volumes, with a slim canoe body and, at the same time, with a good form stability.
Therefore, we expect a reduced resistance when sailing with zero heel degrees and a significant increase of power at medium to high heeling angles.
The basic concept is that this stability of shape, associated with the action of the rather long and heavy keel, will ensure a reduced crew to control the boat even in challenging conditions. The study of the appendices was finding the best compromise between lift force and resistance, while also trying to lower the overall centre of gravity. We have therefore designed efficient appendices, not extreme, able to guarantee stability and control. The bulb was born from our latest CFD study that allowed us to improve the stability in relation to the overall resistance. For the design of the deck, it was very challenging to best solve all those ergonomic functions necessary for an excellent “one design” racing. The sail plan has obviously been a key part of the project and was integrated with all the design loops since the beginning. The basic choice was, once again, the search for an equilibrium that would allow on the one hand good absolute performance but on the other a simple management in a wide range of conditions. The self-taking jib was born in order to facilitate the management by only two, as well as the size and type of gennaker follows the same philosophy. We looked for power and loads not excessive for a not too physical management.
